What do you think are the pros and cons of videconferencing/telepresence?

Do you think these can be used broadly by companies?

How do you feel about using personal videophones to talk to friends and family from your home?

A fictitious meeting in a company is described here:

Yes it would save expenses, time, and fuel. More companies should definitely do it.

My company closed the offices and sent everyone home 4 years ago.
I have meetings everyday with co-works, clients, and management.
A nice little slide show along with a conference call seems to do just fine. We share team databases to store group documents. I really believe that videoconferencing is only needed for sales and doing contract negotiations. That's the only time you need to look someone in the eye and read their face.

I'm talking about Fortune 100 companies on a global scale here.

only if it really saves energy. apparently the energy for one google search could make enough hot water for a tea. it still takes energy to run internet. however the line could be overloaded, unless you are satisfied with lower quality to save on data transfer.
